April, 2009 Holy Week The days of Lent are coming to an end – days which provided an opportunity to reflect upon our relationship with God and the work we are called to do in God’s name. Holy Week approaches with a series of events that leave us with a mix of emotions – amazement, confusion, sadness, anger and joy. On Palm Sunday, we will shout “Hosanna” with the crowds who waved palm branches as they welcomed the king into Jerusalem. On Maundy Thursday, we will receive the gifts of bread and wine as we share a meal and hear the words “remember me.” On Good Friday, we will stand at the foot of the cross in grief or hide in the shadows in fear as we witness the death of one who came to teach, to heal and to serve. The thread which ties the week and our lives together is God’s amazing love. Then, on Easter morning, we will stand at the empty tomb and shout “Hallelujah.” Jesus lives so that we may know forgiveness and eternal life – gifts so amazing that our only response can be one of service. As we welcome Robert Foltz-Morrison to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church on the Green, let us share the gifts of love and forgiveness and service. Together, we can make a difference in this place. God’s love has shaped us for more than 200 years. God’s grace will continue to lead us into the future. May God bless us as we walk together and work together in Jesus’ name. See you in church! -Ethelyn L. Fulton, Clerk of Session
