December 2009 “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all.” - Titus 2.11 Long before advertisers told us what we should buy other persons for Christmas, long before there were Christmas trees, home decorations and meals, long before there were wonderful carols and Christmas services, there was a simple promise: God’s saving grace would come. The New Testament writers unraveled clues in the Old Testament about where this would take place and what it could mean--and we will look at those texts in Advent. Many longed to see the fulfillment of these clues. Some who saw the promises fulfilled believed; others did not. Which brings us to this year and this question: Has the meaning of Christmas found its fulfillment in your life? On Sunday and weekday mornings, we will be exploring the meaning of Christmas in film, songs, prayers, traditions, and stories from our lives. I hope you will come and bring your family or friends with you. As often is said, “Come home for Christmas.” The sanctuary will be reopened; the musicians are ready; the Spirit of God beckons: “Come!” It is my hope that you set aside time to let the promise of Christmas fill your life with meaning. The presence and promise of Christ brings grace and peace you cannot forget when it comes upon you. This is a festive and holy season. Come and celebrate Christmas with us! Yours in the fellowship of Christ,
The Rev. Robert Foltz-Morrison
